Welcome to ReconciliACT

ReconciliACT acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land of the ACT, the Ngunnawal people, and their leaders past, present and future. We are grateful to be able to use their land for many of the activities we run in trying to advance reconciliation.

ReconciliACT is a youth organisation committed to advancing the cause of reconciliation. Rather than being a political organisation, ReconciliACT’s key concern is that people come to better know Indigenous Australians and consider reconciliation and related issues as important.

Our aims are to build reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians by:

•    Building social connections between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians;

•    Celebrating the unique contributions and diversity of Indigenous cultures; and

•    Raising awareness of the importance and urgency of advancing reconciliation.

We hope to start a movement of young people interested in reconciliation and willing to take steps to ensure that they, and those around them, meet the people, see the sights and hear the information that will make them active, informed and understanding participants in the reconciliation process. As part of this process we organise festivals, youth conferences, forums, trips, and planning weekends away.

The organisation is based in Canberra and is part of the larger ReconciliACTion network. Full membership is restricted to 15-30 year olds, however everybody is invited to take part in our events, or attend meetings.

Freedom Rides: 40 Years On

June 29th, 2011 @ 3:55 pm

From 6pm next Monday (the 4th of July) with free (yes, FREE) entry, a rather exciting film screening will take place at the National Film & Sound Archive...
Entitled 'Freedom Rides 40 Years On', this follows the story of a group of young volunteers who hired a bus in order to trace the historic Freedom Ride. This looks to be very informative and interesting; I'd recommend that all individuals with even a passing interest attend.
